Temp. files are files stored on your computer from programs and internet sites you visit. These files do nothing and can be deleted.
If you have not done this in a long time or have never done this it may be slowing down your computer, if nothing else it is using up memory.

click Control Panel
click Internet Options
FOR WINDOWS 7 CLICK START MENU, CONTROL PANEL, NETWORK AND INTERNET THEN INTERNET OPTIONS.
A window will appear under browser history
Check all the boxes: "EXCEPT THE BOX FOR PASSWORDS"
Click the delete button at the bottom
Deleting will start; if it has been a long time or you have never done this it may take a few minutes
When done click ok and close all windows
Go to Start Menu
Control Panel
Folder Options
Scroll down until you see the option "show hidden files and folders
Depending on what operating system you are using you have two posibilities
ONE; you will see the option "show hidden files and folders" with a box next to it. Make sure the box is not checked
TWO; You will see two lines one says "do not show hidden files and folders"
and one will say "show hidden files and folders"

click OK
THIS STEP IS NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE NEXT STEP, IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PART FIRST THE FILE YOU NEED TO VIEW WILL BE HIDDEN.
Close all open windows
Click on My Computer
Click Users
Click on your computer name; in my case it is my name "larry" Note when you first installed your new computer it asked for a name in the set up process
click App Data; this is the file that is hidden if you didn't complete the previous step
click Local
click Temp
this is the file that contains all your temp. files, all of these files can be deleted
Note: you can look under "MY COMPUTER" and see how much free space you have on your hard drive before deleting these files
Then delete all files and look again at your hard drive free space. the difference is the amount of space these temp. files were using up
To delete all the files in this folder click the organize button at the top left of the page and click on "select all"
Then move your cursor over the files that you would like to delete
Next push the right button on your mouse and click on delete
Note: if the "organize button" is not available
Click on the first file Once, then hold down the control button on your key pad "ctrl" and click on the last file ONCE
All the files should be highlighted, right click on the mouse button and click on delete
You may get a pop up window that says you need permission to continue or delete these files, click on skip and leave these files alone
you may have to repeat this step a couple of times
Close all windows
Go to My Computer again
Click on the file that says Windows
Click on the file that says temp
Repeat the same process as above; select all files and delete
close all windows
Go to Start Menu
Click on Run
type in the box "%temp% click OK
Repeat the same process as above; select all files and delete: NOTE: this folder may or may not have files saved in it. Some system will delete these temp files at the same time when you perform the previous step
