Graphic card or video card

The1980’s advanced with video cards that were more advanced and much faster. These cards were unique in that they displayed in 2D graphics. The mid-1990’s brought us GPU’s that supported 3D video graphics. In contemporary times, the majority of graphics cards are built using chips from two manufacturers AMD and Nvidia. These modern graphics cards are multifunctional and support various tasks beyond rendering 3D images for gaming. They also provide 2D graphics processing,

The graphic card is a small circuit board that plugs into the motherboard. The motherboard is a larger circuit board which holds all the components for the computer. (Hard drive, ram memory card, graphic card, the chip or the CPU and more.A graphics processing unit (GPU), is designed to rapidly manipulate and alter memory to accelerate the building of images intended for output to be displayed. Because of the large degree of programmable complexity for such a task, a graphics card has also been called a mini computer. By this I mean that not only does a GPU have its own processor it also stores memory.

The graphic card download a program from the hard drive and stores it on the graphic card itself. This helps because the process does not have to go to the hard drive every time to search for the data it needs, it has the information on the graphic card which will allow for much faster processing and display. A graphic card can store memory of 2GB to 20GB and more. Also see:Computer Symbols.
